Suspect in Shooting Death Under Restraining Order from Different Woman

The 20-year-old woman claimed Eddie Callaway held knives to her throat and guns to her head, according to court documents.

The man suspected in the shooting death Monday of a Waukesha woman was named in a temporary restraining order by a different woman just two months ago, court records show.

Eddie Callaway, 26, is being sought by Waukesha police for the homicide of 24-year-old Shanel "Nani" Negron.

On Feb. 1, a 20-year-old woman sought a temporary restraining order against Callaway in Milwaukee County Circuit Court. She claimed to have had a previous live-in relationship with Callaway.

In her statement, the woman said Callaway "would hold knives to my throat and a gun to my head and threaten to kill me." She further asserted that Callaway would stalk her outside her place of work, and would choke her, push her and physically and verbally assault her in other ways.

The order was served to Callaway on Feb. 13, and granted by Circuit Judge Maxine White, effective through Feb. 14, 2017. She ordered that Callaway was prohibited from possessing a firearm until the order expired.

A violent past

Court records indicate Callaway, a former Brookfield resident, has a history of violence and a previous felony conviction.

In 2006, Callaway fled Wisconsin with a 14-year-old girl after taking her mother’s car. They were gone for nearly two weeks, but the girl wanted to leave after witnessing violence among Callaway’s family members in Indiana, according to a criminal complaint.

Callaway was convicted of a Class H felony for taking/driving a vehicle without consent on April 3, 2007. Callaway was sentenced to probation in that case; however, his probation was revoked when he moved to Indiana for 10 months between 2008 and 2009 without permission from his probation agent. Court documents state he also cut his sister’s ponytail off her head with scissors and shaved her eyebrows during a physical altercation.

Callaway was recently released from prison, according to online court records, for a 2011 misdemeanor disorderly conduct conviction in Waukesha. He originally was sentenced to probation, but a year prison sentence was ordered in September 2012. He was released shortly thereafter, with credit for 235 days served, according to online court records.

In her request for the restraining order, the 20-year-old woman indicated that "he got out of jail at the end of last month."

According to a criminal complaint, Callaway attacked another Waukesha man in December 2010, yelling, “I heard you were talking trash about me!” near Scott Avenue. Callaway chased the man, who slipped on ice. Callaway punched and kicked the man in the head and the back.
