Sex Offender Exposes Himself at Gas Station, Charges Allege

Lynn C. Thompson, 41, of Waukesha denies the act, saying he was just pushing his hernia back in, according to a criminal complaint.

A 41-year-old Waukesha sex offender is facing charges alleging he was masturbating at an area gas station, prompting a woman to call authorities.

Lynn C. Thompson was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court on Thursday with one count of lewd and lascivious behavior. If convicted, he faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines.

It's not the first time Thompson's faced similar allegations. He was arrested in 2008 after he was accused of similar activities in front of a child at a laundromat and at a gas station, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article.  He was later convicted of a misdemeanor charge for those allegations.

His original conviction as a sex offender stems from him grabbing women's butts while he biked past them, according to a 1998 Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article.

At 8:36 a.m. July 31, a woman was at Mobil, 101 E. Broadway, and while walking inside to buy a pack of cigarettes, she spotted Thompson masturbating in a car. She told the clerk, who went out and saw Thompson talking on a cell phone and told him to leave.

Thompson took off, but police were called and Thompson’s car was then found parked in the 200 block of North Hartwell Avenue. Thompson told police he didn’t do anything that could be conceived as lewd at the gas station, saying he had reached down his pants in the car to push his hernia back in.

He added that he may have accidentally exposed himself during the incident. Thompson is a registered sex offender for a fourth-degree sexual assault.

Thompson will make his initial appearance in court Oct. 8.
