Report: Waukesha Police Officer Admitted to Smoking Marijuana with Supervisor

Police Officer Scott Heitman resigned from police department after facing termination for use of illegal substance, internal investigation shows.

A long-time Waukesha police officer resigned from his position after being faced with termination after he admitted Dec. 16 to smoking marijuana with Lt. Craig Rivers, according to an internal investigation document obtained by Waukesha Patch through an open records request that was filed Feb. 28.

Heitman told investigators he had smoked the drug with Rivers about six or seven times during summer vacation in 2006 or 2007. That information was found during the internal investigation against Rivers, who was placed on paid administrative leave Aug. 23 after getting into an altercation with another officer.

β€œWe both knew it was illegal and improper to do, but we just did it,” Heitman told Waukesha Police Department investigators.

Andrew Schauer, an attorney with the Wisconsin Professional Police Association who represented Heitman, was unavailable for comment Monday. A receptionist with the organization said Schauer was on vacation until Tuesday.

The internal investigation states Heitman was previously suspended during his employment with the police department.
