UPDATED: Police Searching for Suspect in Monday Night Homicide

Police confirmed the homicide and the suspect remains at large. A friend identified the slain woman as Shanel Negron. Police identified the suspect as Eddie Callaway.

Updated 12:08 a.m. Tuesday: Police have not released any additional information in the search for Eddie Callaway, suspected in the Monday night homicide of Shanel "Nani" Negron.

Authorities are searching for a 2002 gray Ford Taurus, license plate 394-TVK. They emphasize that Calloway is considered armed and dangerous, and anyone who believes they have seen him should call 911.

Updated 10:45 p.m.: Angelica Juarez, who identified the victim as her friend Shanel "Nani" Negron, said her friend "was an amazing person. She was so bubbly, she had an amazing personality. She was the life of the party."

Juarez and Negron had children at the same time. It is not known if Negron's 3-year-old daughter was present at the shooting.

"She was a great mother," Juarez said. "Her daughter was everything to her."

Juarez stood on Summit Avenue, quietly checking her Facebook account waiting for more information. Soon, people were writing messages of shock on Negron's Facebook page.

"I had a feeling it was her," Juarez said. "I just didn't want to believe it."

Police have not released the woman's identity but reported the victim was a 24-year-old woman.

Updated 10:40 p.m.: Capt. Ron Oremus of the Waukesha Police Department said of the suspect, Eddie Callaway: "We don't want anybody making contact with him. We are considering him armed and dangerous. He did have a handgun that he shot on scene. We have not recovered the handgun. We believe that he may still possess that handgun."

Updated 10:38 p.m. Police have identified the suspect as Eddie Callaway, born in July 1986. 

Online court records indicate that Callaway had a temporary restraining order issued against him on Valentine's Day this year. The order noted that Callaway was not to possess a firearm.

Updated 10:20 p.m.:  A woman named Angelica Juarez has identified the victim as her friend Shanel "Nani" Negron.

Police say the suspect is a black male wearing a gray hoodie. Scanner traffic additionally indicated he was wearing jeans and may have had a red backpack. Traffic from the police also indicated he was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus, license plate 394-TVK, and may have a 2-year-old with him.

Steve Schaefer was driving on his motorcycle when he saw a person with a bloody face being given CPR near a blue house at the intersection. He originally thought someone had been hit by a car and then he saw police approaching the intersection.

In a motorcycle with little protection, Schaefer said he left the scene soon after police arrived. A police officer immediately took over the CPR and pulled the victim to the Summit Avenue side of the street.

“They flew out of the car and went up there. …  Two police picked her up and took her to the other side,” Schaefer said. “… I knew it was from the beginning in the way they were doing CPR.”

A statement from the police department said the suspect is considered armed and dangerous and members of the public should call 911 if he is spotted.

A press release from the department asked anyone who witnessed a possible argument, fight, or shooting in that area to call the desk officer at 262-524-3780.

The intersection of Moreland Boulevard and Summit Avenue was blocked off with a heavy police presence about 8:30 p.m.
