Police Report: Multiple Accidents, including Bus/Car Accident

A wrap-up of police calls from Wednesday, March 24

A school bus carrying about 20 children hit a car stopped in the left lane of Highyway 59 east of Center Road Wednesday morning. There were no injuries.

The car had run out of gas and stopped in the left lane. The school bus had just changed lanes due to traffic conditions. Upon realizing the car was stopped, the driver brought the bus to abrupt stop on the rain-wet pavement. The bus struck the car, resulting in a small puncture on car bumper. The bus was undamaged. No crash report was filed.

A number of accidents were reported Wednesday night, possibly due to the weather conditions:

  • Highway 59 was closed down after a Suburban heading westbound was observed going off the bridge near Center Road at 6:40 p.m. The driver was cited.
  • Two people were taken into custody after leaving an accident with injuries at East Moreland Boulevard and Kossow Road at 6:35 p.m.
  • A woman hit her head and face after hitting and breaking a light pole in the 1300 block of East Roberta Avenue at about 8 p.m. WE Energies was called because of downed power lines.
  • One man was taken into custody for possible intoxicated driving after striking a light pole 2100 North Grandview Boulevard at 10 p.m.
  • Police were called to an accident in the 500 block of Glenwood Drive between two cars in a parking lot at 5:20 p.m. All parties were advised.
  • Police were called to possibly two accidents with three vehicles at the I-94 Grandview Boulevard overpass, which had developed glare ice at 5:50 p.m. County highway trucks arrived on scene to salt.

Other Police Calls

An ambulance was called to check a woman for possible neck injuries after an accident at Cheviot Chase and East Racine Avenue between two cars at 6:50 p.m.

Police were called to possible suicide attempt in the 2700 block of North University Drive Wednesday around 11:50 a.m. The caller reported that a 42-year-old woman had emptied four bottles of pills and locked herself in her bedroom. Upon arrival, police found the woman laying in bed, semi-conscious and breathing.

An indecent exposure incident was reported Wednesday night around 9 p.m. The woman reported that as she was driving northbound on University Drive, a car pulled up next to her and the man in the car appeared to be masturbating. The suspect was described at a white male, in his late 30’s, early 40’s.

An intoxicated man was taken into custody after being found in a bathroom stall with his pants down and the door open in the 300 block of Wisconsin Avenue Wednesday evening.
