Police Report: Fights, Drunkenness and Fireworks

The following items are brief summaries from the call log for Friday, June 8, to Sunday, June 10. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Fights and battery incidents

A male was arrested following a report of a fight in the 100 block of Cecilia Ct Friday at 9:20 p.m.

A caller reported to police Saturday at 1:02 a.m. that 24-year-old man was punched in the face in the 2400 block of North Grandview Boulevard. The man suffered a head injury, was unconscious at the time of the call but was alert when police arrived. The man did not want to file a complaint.

A battery was reported in the 200 block of East Park Avenue Saturday at 1:28 p.m. after a man ripped an earring out of woman’s eyebrow and ran off.

A man was arrested at  Saturday at 12:47 p.m. after employees called police about a man who hit their manager.

Miscellaneous

A resident in the 700 block of North Moreland Boulevard was advised by police Friday at 4:25 p.m. about city ordinance regarding trapping animals after he told police that he was going to trap a fox that was a nuisance in the neighborhood. Police report that the man was intoxicated and uncooperative.

A bikini-wearing woman on a scooter going the wrong way on Moreland between Madison and Dopp streets was the subject of two calls to police Saturday at 11:31 a.m. The woman was gone when police arrived.

Saturday at 1:19 a.m., a caller to police reported that two intoxicated men were walking down the street in the area of Wisconsin Avenue and Clinton Street with a wooden chair that looked like one from . The men told police that they found the chair in an alley but couldn’t tell where. Police confirmed with the restaurant that the chair matched one from their dining room area. The restaurant did not wish to file a complaint and just wanted the chair returned.

Kids in the area of the train tracks on North Hartwell Avenue and East Main Street were warned by police after a caller reported Saturday at 12:30 p.m. that the kids were laying on the railroad tracks and filming it. The kids, who were in costume and filming a video, told police that no one was ever tied to the tracks.

An oxygen tank was found near the tennis courts in the 1200 block of Heyer Drive Saturday at 8:51 a.m.

Intoxication

A man was reported to be passed out in a car parked in a parking lot the 200 block of North East Avenue Sunday 3:18 a.m. The man did not appear to be a student. Police called a cab for him.

A man was arrested at the Airport Lounge in the 538 Bluemound Rd. following a call to police about an intoxicated man Sunday at 1:12 a.m. Police were informed that the man was told to go back to his room but was currently in the hallway and trying to kick doors in.

A man was reported to be passed out in  Sunday at 12:02 a.m. The man was said to have been drinking at an area bar and tried walking home but went in the wrong way. His mom came and picked him up.

A young woman in the 300 block of West Newhall Avenue was Sunday cited for her second offence of underage drinking after neighbors reported hearing yelling and crying at 2:10 a.m. Upon arrival, police were informed that no fighting took place. The people were trying to control the woman who was intoxicated. The woman was escorted to her mother’s house and told not to return until sober.

Theft

Theft of vehicle parts from five vehicles in the 1900 block of East Main Street was reported Friday at 10:47 a.m. The thefts occurred earlier in the week.

A radio was reported stolen out of unlocked vehicle in the 1900 block of Bonnie Lane Friday at 10:28 a.m.

Theft of scrap metal was reported in the 500 block of Frederick Street Friday at 10:15 a.m.

A small jar of change was stolen from a vehicle in the 2600 block of Lavine Lane sometime Friday night.

Noise

Police received calls complaining about fireworks Saturday night at about 10:52 p.m.: in the 2000 block of Oaklawn Avenue and Easy Street/Grandview Boulevard; and on Perkins Avenue from fireworks in the area of East and Roberta avenues at 9:05 p.m.

A graduation party in the 2700 block of Albany Court at 10:29 p.m. was the subject of a noise complaint call to police at 9:28 p.m. Police found that the noise wasn't excessive upon arrival and that it was wrapping up. Party-goers were advised of the city's noise ordinance.

Accidents

An accident with possible injury was reported in the 300 block of South East Avenue Saturday at 10:35 p.m. A minivan went up the curb, hit a sign and was stuck on landscaping rocks in a yard. A tow truck was called for the car. Upon arrival, police found the man was standing and talking.

Police were called Friday at 6:48 a.m. after a caller reported that a Viola garbage truck hit her car and drove away in the area of West Moreland Boulevard and North Street.

An accident between two cars was reported at the intersection of Tenny Avenue and Larchmont Drive Saturday at 8:25 p.m.

An accident with injury was reported at the intersection of Oakdale and Sunset drives Saturday at 3:50 p.m.

Criminal damage to property

An unknown person carved swear words into the front door of an apartment in the 600 block of Summit Avenue, it was reported Friday at 7:40 p.m.

A resident’s front door was egged in the 2500 block of Emslie Drive Friday after 11:30 p.m. The resident had no suspects in the vandalism.

Damage to tires was reported in 400 block of North West Avenue Friday at 10:19 a.m.

Traffic stops

Two people were arrested following a traffic stop in the 400 block North Grandview Boulevard Friday at 7:30 p.m.

A traffic stop in the 800 block of Sentry Drive Sunday at 1:07 a.m. resulted in the teen being cited for curfew violation and released to the parents.
