Find out from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at where the two departments will battle each other on the court for the first annual Police and Firefighter Basketball Challenge, which is being sponsored by the Waukesha Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association.

The association is running the event as a fundraiser and the proceeds will be split three ways, said the alumni association’s president Matt Jendrzejczyk.

The Waukesha firefighters will donate a portion to the burn victims camp they take part in each year where children who have been scarred by fire can have fun with others in the summer while not worrying about what they look like. The Waukesha police officers will donate money into their benevolence fund, which is used to assist an officer who has been injured while on duty or, when an officer is killed in the line of duty, the officer’s grieving family.

The final portion of the proceeds will go back into the alumni association’s donation accounts to be used as seed money for projects with which they assist the Waukesha Police Department.

In the past, the alumni association has helped the department purchase items like practice ammunition and tasers when the city’s budget didn’t allow the extras to be purchased.

Concessions will be sold at the basketball game and tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students and children under age 12 are free. Tickets are available at the Waukesha State Bank’s downtown and Silvernail Road offices.
