Police Arrest Sex Offender on Child Pornography Charges

Waukesha man, 24, faces prosecution for also failing to update his address on the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry.

A 24-year-old registered sex offender who already faced federal prosecution for possession of child pornography finds himself again jailed on similar charges.

Thomas J. Kopp, of Waukesha, was charged Monday with four counts of possessing child pornography and one county of failing to update information to the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry. He faces a maximum sentence of 106 years in prison if convicted of all five counts.

Kopp was released from the Waukesha County Jail on Monday on $5,000 bail.

According to the complaint:

Waukesha Police Department officers executed a search warrant at Kopp’s mother’s Shepherd Court residence on Thursday as part of an investigation into child pornography. Police spoke with Kopp at the home, who admitted to using his mother’s new laptop to view child pornography of pre-teen girls.

Kopp’s residence was listed on the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry as being in Cudahy, but officers had monitored his vehicle, which had been parked in Waukesha for several evenings. Police made contact with the Cudahy residence and learned Kopp had moved to Waukesha three weeks earlier.
