Pills in the Pants Don't Make Things Better

A man being held at the Waukesha County Jail got himself into even more trouble thanks to a “small object” that “moved about” in the “groin area.”

That object — a plastic bag of prescription medication, including Oxycodone — led to charges last week of felony bail jumping and misdemeanor violating state/county institution laws.

According to a criminal complaint, a jail correctional officer was performing a random check of Nicholas Graefe, 32, at 4:40 p.m. last Sept. 13. During a patdown, “in the groin area a small object moved about,” according to the complaint. “It felt wrapped in plastic and made a particular noise.”

Graefe removed the item and reluctantly dropped it to the floor, where the officer could see that it was a plastic bag with small circular pills. Moved to a strip search room, Graefe was required to remove his pants, and two more bags of pills fell out.

Overall, he possessed 59 Oxycodone pills, 15 Diazapam pills and nine Volipdem pills. He admitted to smuggling the pills into jail, according to the complaint.

Graefe was already in custody for a third offense OWI and was on probation for a felony conviction of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud from 2012.
