Fire Prevention Week kicked off Saturday morning with a special open house at Station No. 5 with a special appearance by Flight For Life.
The firefighters are giving fire safety public safety messages throughout the community during a six-week period surrounding Fire Safety Week. The Waukesha Fire Department is estimating that they will reach about 1,800 children in the community this year.
“Although the message of fire prevention is one that we share with the public on a daily basis, Fire Prevention Week is a nationally recognized, dedicated period of time for us to formally get our fire prevention message out, especially to the children in the schools,” said Fire Chief Allen LaConte in a Sept. 21 memo to the Police & Fire Commission.
