Phone Number Left on Robbery Note Leads Police To Suspect

A Sussex mother is accused of saying she had a bomb in order to rob two Waukesha County pharmacies of oxycodone, including at one grocery store on Silvernail Road in Waukesha.

Nicole M. Land, 32, is charged with two counts of armed robbery. If convicted, she faces up to 50 years in prison and $200,000 in fines. Land remains jailed in lieu of $12,500 bail.

Two pharmacies – one in Brookfield and one in Waukesha – were robbed of oxycodone after a woman claimed she had a bomb, according to the criminal complaint filed Friday against Land.

Pick N’ Save, 17295 W. Capitol Drive, in Brookfield was robbed by a woman on June 23. The woman handed the pharmacy employees a note – with several misspellings – shortly after 10 a.m., the complaint states.

“This has be very very quick before the bomb I have inside my pants I have no problem throwing it into your pharmacutelis,” the complaint states the note read. “Now to protect the life ad and dangers around you I need you 15 mg oxy codons. … less than 3 min the gun and bomb will not be displayed.”

The woman fled the store with about 200 oxycodone pills, the complaint states.

Tuesday afternoon, Pick N’ Save, 2160 Silvernail Road, in Waukesha, was robbed by a woman holding a box covered in duct tape. A note was also handed to pharmacy employees in that robbery, according to the complaint.

“Please don’t push any button for help or I will run and leave this bomb,” the note stated, according to the complaint. “Don’t make any phone calls to anyone, don’t make any drastic moves until 10 minutes have gone by. Again you have one minute to release these pills. Once I have them and nothing goes wrong, I will leave with all weapons and the bomb and tell my guys at the back to leave. We are not here to hurt anyone. One minute.”

The woman left with more than 300 oxycodone pills after fleeing the Waukesha pharmacy. However, this time, a witness saw her leaving in a Honda Odyssey and the latest robbery note had a name and phone number written on the back of the paper.

Police tracked the number to a woman in Kewaskum, who identified Land as a possible suspect. Officers spoke with Land at her Sussex apartment and she allowed them to come into the home.

Hooded sweatshirts matching the description of clothing worn in the robberies were visible to the officers, so they asked to speak with her privately and away from her children, according to the complaint.

When inside Land’s bedroom, they noticed a roll of duct tape in plain sight. Land eventually admitted to the robberies, telling them she owed oxycodone pills to a woman in Kewaskum, according to the complaint.

The duct-taped box and a pink and black toy gun covered in duct tape were located in the woman’s vehicle, the complaint states.
