Waukesha native and Olympian Paul Hamm has pleaded not guilty to an assault in Columbus, OH, according to various news reports.
Hamm, a former student at was accused of assaulting a taxi cab driver in September. Hamm is reported to have fallen asleep in the cab and when the taxi driver woke him up to pay the $23 far, Hamm is accused of striking the taxi cab driver, according to news reports. 10TV News in Columbus reported police released video of the incident.
Hamm was fired from his assistant coaching job of the Ohio State men’s gymnastics team, where he graduated from in 2007, after his arrest. The university stated in a news release that Hamm failed to meet “high standards” for its coaches.
Hamm won the all-around gymnastics competition in the 2004 Olympics and won a silver medal in the team competition and a silver in the parallel bars.
