More Legal Problems for City Engineer

A city engineer facing charges for a violent altercation with his wife now faces more charges after police say he drove drunk through Menomonee Falls.

A Brookfield engineer already charged with four felonies stemming from an altercation with his wife has yet another felony charge issued against him after police say he drove drunk through Menomonee Falls.

John A. Laning, 40, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court last Monday with one count of felony bail jumping. If convicted, he faces up to three years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Saturday, a Menomonee Falls police officer was on patrol when he spotted Laning doing 40 miles per hour in a 25 miles per hour speed zone and then pulled him over near Appleton Avenue and Jacobson Drive. As the officer approached the car he could smell alcohol coming from inside.

Laning failed field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of 0.15, which is nearly twice above the legal limit to drive in Wisconsin.

He is assigned $25,000 bond while awaiting trial.
