A Waukesha man is apparently learning the hard way the importance of properly tipping the pizza delivery man after an issue with his order lead to drug charges against him, according to a criminal complaint.

Nicholas G. Hadaway, 34, was charged in on Wednesday with one count of possession of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted, he could face up to seven months in prison and $1,500 in fines.

On Aug. 25, police were called to Hadaway’s apartment in the 2000 block of Dixie Drive after a person called in a drug complaint. When police arrived, they saw a baggie of marijuana, a pipe and a vaporizer sitting in plain view.

When police told him they were called to the residence for a drug complaint, Hadaway laughed, saying it happened because there was an issue with his Papa John’s order and it took more than 1 ½ hours to get to the apartment. Hadaway said he tipped with his credit card and a credit to his account must have come from the tip portion of his charges. He said the call must have come because the delivery driver didn’t get his tip.

Hadaway will make his initial appearance in court Feb. 20.
