According to witnesses, Morgan had been out with a friend at an area bar then came home and began fighting with his girlfriend. During the fight he told the woman he was going to blow up the house.

A short time later, witnesses saw the car go up in flames and heard a loud banging as someone then broke through a door to the basement and started a fire there.
