Man Faces Charges after Building Bonfire, Taking Drugs

A 21-year-old Town of Waukesha man is facing charges after he went into a woman’s backyard and held a bonfire without permission and injected heroin.

Michael D. Owens was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Monday with one count of possession of narcotic drugs and one count of bail jumping. If convicted, he faces up to 45 months in prison and $20,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

At 10:20 p.m. Friday, a woman was house sitting for a friend in the W24200 block of Townline Road when she noticed someone was in the backyard having a bonfire and two cars parked on the grass. She called the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department who found Owens sitting by the fire.

Owens said he worked for the homeowner and she had given him permission to be there and that he had been with his girlfriend and her children. However, officers discovered he didn’t have permission to be at the residence from the homeowner.

He then allowed officers to search his car, where they found a syringe with heroin inside. Owens had fresh track marks on his arm and said he had injected himself with the drug after several months of being clean, but didn’t remember putting it back in the car.

He’s currently being held in Waukesha County Jail on $2,500 bond.
