Man Charged After Trying to Sell 3 Pounds of Marijuana

Man known as "Heavy D" tells officers he knew he was being targeted by police, but kept going ahead with the sales because of the money at stake and because he was in "too deep," according to complaint.

A 22-year-old Milwaukee man is facing felony charges after he was caught selling large amounts of marijuana on three separate occasions in the past month to Waukesha County Metro Drug Unit investigators.

David J. Grottkau was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of manufacture and deliver of less than 200 grams of THC, which is the active ingredient in marijuana, one count of manufacture and delivery of more than 200 grams of THC, one count of possession with intent to deliver more than 1,000 grams of THC and one count of maintaining a drug trafficking place. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and $55,000 in fines.

On May 9, drug unit investigators set up a deal with Grottkau-who also goes by the name Heavy D- where he agreed to sell 124 grams of marijuana at a Waukesha fast food joint. When investigators arrived with a confidential informant, Grottkau was ordering food. They then went to a car in the parking lot where the deal was completed.

Investigators set up another deal with Grottkau on May 14, where he agreed to meet them at the same place and sell them one pound of marijuana. Grottkau met investigators there and gave them a shoebox with 490 grams of marijuana inside for $4,500.

Investigators set up another deal Tuesday where Grottkau agreed to meet them in a parking lot near Sunset Drive and South West Avenue and sell them three pounds of marijuana for $11,000. Grottkau was arrested by Waukesha police officers at the time with 1,374 grams of marijuana in his car.

Grottkau first denied selling marijuana, saying he had it in his car for his own use. He changed his story and said he doesn’t sell marijuana, but exchanges it for money.

He said knew he was being targeted in a sting from the start, but was in "too deep" so he decided to risk it because the money was too much, saying he would either make thousands or end up in jail, which would then end the possible profit. Grottkau said he has a marijuana plant that produces the drug easily and that’s where he got the drugs.

He’s currently being held in Waukesha County Jail on $3,000 bail while awaiting trial.
