Man Tries to Sell Car, Gets Charged with Felony Instead

A 27-year-old Waukesha man is facing multiple charges after he was pulled over when a deputy saw him driving his car without a court-ordered ignition interlock device, without a license and a 6-year-old child not properly restrained, according to a criminal complaint.

Jermaine L. Williams was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court on Tuesday with one count of felony bail jumping, one count of failure to install an ignition interlock device and one count of operating a motor vehicle after revocation of his license. If convicted, he faces up to 7 ½ years in prison and $13,100 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

At 4:36 p.m. Saturday, a Waukesha County sheriff’s deputy saw Williams traveling northbound on Highway 74 near Interstate-94 and when he ran the license plate number, he discovered Williams had a suspended license. The deputy followed Williams and pulled him over on eastbound I-94 near Springdale Road.

The deputy spotted the child not placed in a booster seat inside the car and Williams told the deputy he didn’t have a license or insurance. Williams told the deputy he took the ignition interlock device out of the car because he was taking his car to his parents' house in Milwaukee to sell the car.

Williams is free on $250 bond while awaiting trial.
