A man was arrested Wednesday who police believe “may have been in involved in the homicide” of 56-year-old Nayyer Rana, a gas station clerk and father of four whose according to a news release from the Waukesha Police Department.
Rana was fatally shot early Tuesday morning at the gas station East Broadway and Pleasant Street. Police had no suspects as of Tuesday.
The man was detained by Brookfield and Elm Grove police officers, according to the release from Police Chief Russell Jack.
“Alert work by these officers has resulted in the development of significant leads in the case,” Jack said in the release.
Police are not releasing the suspect’s identity pending a potential charging decision, according to the release.
A handgun that was located by Waukesha police officers inside a Waukesha home is being examined by the Wisconsin Crime Lab, the release states.
Rana's family released this statement about the police department's annoucement, according to Patch's media partners at Fox 6.
"The family is relieved that a suspect is now in custody. The family has complete confidence in the Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office and believes that the individual who committed this senseless crime will receive the justice he deserves, through this process.”
