Pills Taped to Bottom of Salad Leads to Drug Charge
Suspect tried to smuggle drugs to his girlfriend while she's staying at the Waukesha County Mental Health Center, according to criminal complaint.
A 48-year-old New Berlin man is facing charges alleging he tried to smuggle drugs to his girlfriend in the Waukesha County Mental Health Facility by taping them to the bottom of her salad, according to a criminal complaint.
John A. Hewitt was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court on Wednesday with one count delivery of a schedule I, II or III non-narcotic. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

On Sept. 5 Hewitt went to visit his girlfriend in the facility and brought her lunch. He told her he taped seven hydrocodone pills to the bottom of her salad, which made her upset and she told him to leave.
She then gave the pills to staff, who contacted the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department.

He will make his initial appearance in court March 26.
