Man Accused of Carrying Knife While Pounding on Apartment Doors

Criminal complaint alleges that Waukesha man threw bottle of soda at resident during Saturday incident.

A 25-year-old Waukesha man is facing charges for allegedly walking around with a knife and causing a disturbance in his apartment complex, according to a criminal complainted filed Monday.

Stephen J. Gilligan was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court with one count of disorderly conduct and one count of carrying a concealed weapon for the incident, which occurred Saturday. If convicted, he faces up to one year in prison and $11,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Gilligan was heavily intoxicated and walking around his apartment complex in the 100 block of West North Street, and yelling and pounding on doors. When a resident of the complex confronted him about his behavior, Gilligan swore at her and threw a two-liter bottle a soda at her.

As a Waukesha Police official was approaching the apartment complex, the complaint states an unknown man confronted them about Gilligan, who was found by the officer pounding on an apartment door.

The complaint states a knife was found in Gilligan’s pocket. When asked why he had the knife, Gilligan told the officer he didn’t know and shortly thereafter became emotional and started to cry and scream.

Gilligan was placed in a restraint chair before being transported to Waukesha County Jail, according to the complaint.
