**Updated  12 p.m. Friday

Waukesha police are trying to determine if a 34-year-old man who was shot in the stomach Thursday evening was shot on accident or if the wound was self-inflicted, according to Sgt. Joe Hendricks.

The man was in serious condition after being transported to Froedtert Hospital. He was placed on a police mental hold, according to the police department's call log. A second person was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The shooting occurred shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday at a two-family residence at the corner of Albany and University Drive, just north of the Rolling Ridge subdivision. Police tape surrounded the scene.

The public is not in any danger following this incident, Waukesha police Sgt. Joe Hendricks said at the scene.
