Kwik Trip Employee Recognized for Positive Relationship With Police

Jeffrey Nowak noticed a suspicious person inside convenience store and alerted off-duty police officer.

An employee at Waukesha Kwik Trip was recognized by police last week for having a great working relationship with the Waukesha Police Department. Jeffrey Nowak was sent a letter of appreciation from Police Chief Russell Jack for an April incident that lead to a drug arrest at the Waukesha store.

Because Nowak has a good relationship with the police department, Nowak recognized a Waukesha police officer – who is also a drug recognition expert – in the store at the same time. Nowak alerted the officer to the suspicious person, who was arrested for heroin possession.

Here is the letter from Jack:

Mr. Nowak:

On April 23, 2011, you observed as suspicious person inside your business, Kwik Trip, on North Grandview Boulevard and were intent on reporting it to the police. Because of your great working relationship with officers from the Waukesha Police Department, you recognized Officer Fink, who was inside the store just prior to his shift. You reported the incident to him, which subsequently led to the arrest of the subject for possession of a dangerous drug, namely heroin.

This was not the first time you observed illegal activity and used your positive relationship with the officers to report crime in progress. Thank you for acting as the eyes of the Waukesha Police Department and assisting us in keeping the city safe and drug free.

Sincerely,
Russell Jack
Chief of Police
