Girl, 2, Rescued from Waukesha Swimming Pool

Child wandered away from mother Sunday at Horeb Spring Aquatic Center.

A 2-year-old girl who wandered away from her mother is alive after a watchful lifeguard spotted the toddler submerged in the big pool at Horeb Spring Aquatic Center on Sunday.

Battalion Chief Joe Vitale said the lifeguard immediately blew the whistle and pulled the girl out of the water.

The water β€œwas definitely over her head,” Vitale said about the young girl.

The lifeguard delivered a few back blows to the child to clear the lungs of any water. The child was conscious, alert and breathing when paramedics took the toddler to Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

With the recent heat wave, the pools have been a popular place for people looking to cool off outside.
