The thefts occurred between 2004 and 2009 until June 18, 2009, when another employee opened the mail when Sisaleumsak was not working. That employee found a canceled check worth $850 made out to Sisaleumsak with forged signatures, according to the criminal complaint.

When confronted with the issue, Sisaleumsak admitted she had a gambling problem and she had written the $850 check and an additional $500 check to herself, according to the complaint.
