Complaint: Waukesha Man Mails Package Reeking of Pot

Two men accused of growing marijuana in N. Grandview Blvd. home

Two Waukesha men are facing charges after one of them tried to mail a package of marijuana at a Waukesha pharmacy then stopped to have a prescription filled, according to a criminal complaint filed in Waukesha County Circuit Court.

Richard L. Lane, 50, and Gary L. Williams, 45, are charged with attempting to manufacture and deliver THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, maintaining a drug trafficking place, intent to deliver THC and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted, Lane faces up to 14 years in prison and Williams faces 39 months in prison.

Lane on March dropped off a package to be shipped at Aurora Pharmacy, 304 Delafield St., and then sat down to have a prescription filled. While there, one of the workers noticed the packages smelled strongly of marijuana and called the .

Officers obtained the mailed packaged March 23, which contained 11.5 grams of marijuana.

On Tuesday, officers searched a residence shared by Williams and Lane in the 500 block of North Grandview Boulevard and found a plywood cabinet in the basement containing 12 marijuana plants and a box with a root system for an additional 16 marijuana plants.

Investigators also found a plastic container in the bathroom of the residence, which contained 52 grams of marijuana and another container in the living room with 114 grams of marijuana.

Lane was freed from Waukesha County Jail Thursday on a $5,000 signature bond and Williams was released on a $3,000 signature bond.
