'Comfy' Rocks Not a Place to Fall Asleep

A 26-year-old Town of Waukesha man found Feb. 2 hiding under a trailer and laying on rocks told a Waukesha County deputy the rocks were “comfy,” according to a criminal complaint.

The deputy didn’t fall for Joshua L. Hamm’s story. Instead, he was charged Wednesday with disorderly conduct-domestic abuse and obstructing an officer. If convicted he faces up to a year in jail and $11,000 in fines.

According to the complaint:

A woman told deputies with the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department she had argued with Hamm after leaving Sporties Bar; a bartender told her Hamm had been with another woman at the bar a few weeks earlier.

The woman locked herself in the bedroom, she told deputies, because Hamm started acting “mental.” She heard items breaking in the home, so she called 911 and Hamm fled the residence.

Waukesha County deputies responded and found broken dinner plates and a vase on the floor with flowers spilled from it. The woman had a .11 percent blood alcohol concentration, according to her breath test.

A deputy followed footprints in the snow and found Hamm hiding on rocks underneath a trailer in a Paradise Builders garage. The deputy ordered Hamm to exit the garage, but he did not respond immediately. Eventually he crawled from underneath the trailer.

Hamm, who had a .16 percent blood alcohol concentration, told the deputies he had passed out underneath the trailer because the rocks looked “comfy” and he knew the police were coming.

He also told deputies the woman hit him 10 times on the head – although he had no marks on his face – after she accused him of cheating on him. During the argument, he added, he dropped a plate of spaghetti on the floor.
