The sweaty, wet hair Green Bay Packers fans are used to seeing on Clay Matthews on game day was neatly pulled back as he answered questions from fans in Pewaukee about the NFL draft, his college years and what he bought after receiving his big contract extension.
The big purchase, Matthews said, was a boat. Not just any boat, but a used boat as he was trying to be financially smart with his $66 million the linebacker will be paid over the next five years.
After the draft, he bought new furniture, but decided to save the money by assemblying the pieces himself, Matthews told a laughing crowd.
While Matthews might be a saver, he was getting others to spend on Wednesday night during a fundraiser for the new gun range and training facility for the Waukesha County Technical College's law enforcement program. The event also doubled as a law enforcement appreciation dinner to give thanks to those who daily put their lives at risk.
