Carroll Students Fundraise To Pay For Lockdown Citation

A Carroll University student started raising money online for the man who was cited for disorderly conduct after a misunderstanding caused a lockdown because he was seen carrying an airsoft gun.

A Carroll University student wants to raise money to pay the fine for the man who caused a campus-wide lockdown after he was walking across campus with an airsoft gun.

Emily Kammerud started a fundraising account through gofundme.com to help pay for the $303 fine that comes with the disorderly conduct citation Michael Wiedemann received.

Authorities say Wiedemann, 50, took it home and planned to give or sell it to a friend.

He apologized for the misunderstanding.

"It'll never happen again," he told TMJ4. "It was a dumb mistake on my dumb part and I'll never do it again."

As of Thursday afternoon, 19 people have raise $235.

Kammerud said on the fundraising website, "This poor guy has been ticketed for a misunderstanding, and based on the cooperation and his kind apology, I think it would be a great gesture if we paid for his ticket."

A number of people extended gratitude for Wiedemann's apology and empathize with him on the website.
