Beer-Drinking Thieves Return Stolen Truck, Police Say

Two Waukesha 20-year-olds face up to 8-1/4 years in prison if convicted of burglary and joy riding after they were charged with breaking into a Waukesha business.

Two Waukesha men are accused of breaking into 735 Pleasant St., drinking beer in a cooler, stealing items from the business, taking the business’  truck to transport the stolen items before returning the truck.

Dakota M. Cournia and Matthew E.D. McClain, both 20, were charged Wednesday in Waukesha County Circuit Court with burglary and joyriding – both charges as a party to a crime. They each face up to 8-1/4 years in prison and $35,000 in fines.

Waukesha police officers responded to a report of a burglary on Oct. 1 after unknown people entered Parts Hut, breaking a window with a rock and stealing items from the business, according to the criminal complaint.

McClain’s fingerprints found at the scene and when confronted by police officers, he admitted to the burglary with Cournia, the complaint states. They first consumed beer found in a cooler and then stole several items, including a drill set, batter, alternator, computer monitors and candy from the vending machine.

Waukesha police recovered several stolen items from the store. McClain told police they found a key to a Parts Hut truck and used the truck to transport the stolen items to McCann’s home where they put the items in the shed, according to the complaint.
