Bail Set for Man Charged with Sexual Assault

David M. Helser was arrested Tuesday morning following standoff with Waukesha Police Department.

Bail was set at $5,500 this afternoon for a Waukesha man who is in , according to online court records.

The man, David M. Helser, 28, had bail set at $2,500 on a sexual assault of a child under age 16 charge, $500 set on a bail jumping charge and $2,500 set on a theft charge. He also is in custody on warrant for a probation violation from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

Helser was arrested after a standoff Tuesday morning in the 300 block of Prospect Avenue. The Waukesha Police Department’s call log indicates that officers would have been “forced to use deadly force” if Helser stepped off the porch with a weapon. Helser was told by police to exit the residence with nothing in his hands. Helser was taken into custody without major incident while the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 Unit was on standby in case Helser ran from the scene, the call log states.
