Anonymous Letter Sparks Cold Case Investigation

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department received a tip recently about a homicide that occurred in the late 1950s via an anonymous letter.

The homicide is alleged to occur in the fall of 1957 or 1958 near a low lying bridge on Okauchee Lake, according to the Sheriff's Department.

"The author describes the victim as a white male with dark hair wearing blue jeans and a dark colored jacket, and may have operated a truck at the time of the incident," the release states. "The letter also suggests that the victim may have had affiliations with airplanes. Additionally the letter stated that the suspect’s name is 'Gordie.'

"We would like to speak with anyone that may have any information regarding this alleged homicide, the identity of 'Gordie' or any unexplained 'missing person case.'  If you have any information regarding this please contact Detective Ryan Dronek at (262) 896-8139."

The letter, which was postmarked from Boston, indicates that the suspect wrapped the body in burlap and disposed of the body in the middle of the lake, according to Patch's media partners at WISN 12 News.

If a homicide did occur in the late 1950s, it still doesn't clear up a cold case that was reported on Okauchee Lake in 1975. A torso of a man was found in the lake and authorities believed the body part was about a year old at that time, according to the Milwaukee JournalThe body part was eventually buried in the Prairie Home Cemetery and the case was never solved.
