2 Waukesha Sheriff's Deputies Injured in Freeway Accident

Suspected drunken driver hits squad car parked in median on I-94 near Sunnsyslope Road in New Berlin.

Four people — including two Waukesha County Sheriff's deputies — were injured early Thursday when a driver crashed into a squad car parked on the median on I-94.

The crash occurred at 2:40 a.m. near Sunnyslope Road when a man driving a Saab east on the freeway drove into the median and struck the back of a squad car that was parked there, the Wisconsin State Patrol said.

A passenger in the Saab was transported by Flight for Life to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, and two deputies in the squad were taken by ambulance to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa. The driver of the striking car, an 18-year-old St. Francis man, was transported by ambulance to Waukesha Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, according to FOX6 News.

FOX6 says the passenger in the Saab, a 17-year-old West Allis boy, has critical injuries, while both deputies were treated for back and facial injuries and then released.

The driver of the Saab was taken into police custody for a possible charge of operating while intoxicated-causing great bodily harm.
