One In Custody After Standoff In Pewaukee

Waukesha County Sheriff's Department negotiators worked with 48-year-old man after he barricaded himself in a business near Jericho Drive and Springdale Road.

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department took a 48-year-old Brookfield man into custody Friday afternoon after a standoff began just after 11 a.m.

Officers from Waukesha County attempted contact with the man at a business near Jericho Drive and Springdale Road as a part of an ongoing investigation. When they responded, the man barricaded himself inside the business.

“Since that time, members of the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department Tactical Enforcement Unit had been in contact with him, negotiating with him to get him to come out peacefully,” said Deputy Inspector James Gumm.

The man was the only person in the business at the time of the incident, according to the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department. Authorities had received information that the man had possible access to weapons.

It is not known if the man was armed. He surrendered, taken into custody and no one was injured during the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

Gumm thanked other law enforcement agencies that responded to the incident, specifically the Brookfield Police Department

Authorities are not releasing the man's identity at this time.
