Editor's Note: The following letter to the editor was submitted by John Holst, who is running for District 1 Alderman against incumbent Terry Thieme and chalelnger Mark Myers.
To the neighbors and voters of District 1, let’s get the truth about flooding on Oscar Street, Greenway Terrace and Highland Avenue. Candidate Thieme isn’t telling the voters the truth about that area. He has either been misinformed or hasn’t done his homework.
That area was Alderman Charles Batker’s ward at the time of flooding almost 15 years ago. Alderman Batker with the DPW had a 48-inch tile installed so the water runs into the Fox River. Problem was solved and there is absolutely no more flooding.
Let nobody tell you that the fire station on Stardust Drive should have been bulldozed. It should have been sold for $300,000 (offer made) and put back on the tax roll. It would have put tax money back into the city which was the intention of our city fathers if the station was ever vacated. Believe me I have lived on Highland Avenue for 44 years and know the area well.
I ask you to vote for the “common sense” candidate on Feb. 19.
John Holst
Candidate for Alderman
District 1
I think John, who I don't know is just trying to get a little publicity for his run. Nothing wrong with that but again Terry Thieme is the best person for this job.
It's time for a new alderman. John Holst asks the hard questions and has common sense.
