Letter to the Editor: Aaron Perry Running for District 12 Alderman

Waukesha man is looking to join the Waukesha Common Council.

Editor's Note: The following letter to the editor was written by Aaron Perry, a candidate for the District 12 aldermanic seat. The incumbent, Rick Hastings, is not seeking re-election.

My name is Aaron Perry of 912 Valley Hill Drive in District 12 of Waukesha. I am running for Alderman of District 12 in the 2013 election to lend my knowledge, passion, and service to the great city of Waukesha.

My wife Angela and I have started our family here with two handsome boys, Landon, age 1, and Jackson, who was born just one month ago. We find our community to be welcoming, friendly, and family oriented. That being said, Waukesha, as well as District 12, is in need of an upgrade in ideas, a commitment to completion of projects, and urgent action in regard to issues that are of vital importance to the long term prosperity of our community and its residents.

My interest in politics and public service began in 1988 and that interest turns to action in December of 2012. Being connected to what is happening in my community makes me passionate about being a public servant. Serving as alderman of District 12 would allow me the opportunity to not only represent the interests of the people in my community but the values of the people of this state.

I strongly believe the voice, influence, and common sense of an everyday citizen of this community like me is welcome in this stagnant and sometimes cloudy political climate. Having a true connected resident of our community representing the interests of all of us in District 12 is vital in the progression needed to reach the ideal vision of what we see as a better place to live, a vision that leaves our households free of worry, and confident in our leaders to make cost effective decisions with our tax dollars.

Waukesha is a great place to live, but Waukesha is not without its challenges. We have areas of our city that are experiencing a rise in crime, neighborhoods that need cleaning up, and citizens’ issues that have gone unheard. These are issues affecting the residents of Waukesha and District 12 and require a new view from one of those residents. This process empowers citizens to make this choice and elect a peer to this position, and I’d be honored and excited to take on this responsibility.

I invite you to follow the campaign updates on Twitter at @perry4alderman, on Facebook at Vote Perry, and the campaign blog at  http://perry4alderman.blogspot.com  I look forward to connecting with everyone in any way that is available to ensure issues are heard.

What are the other districts that are up for election, and how can a person sign up to run for alderperson?

It would be nice to also have some information on the candidates positions on local issues. Perhaps Patch could put together a Waukesha issue orientated questionnaire? Just having someone say, "Hi, my name is..." doesn't really empower voters to make good decisions about who to vote for.
I'm not really sure what the verbiage of "cost effective decisions" really means either as that is a very vague statement which could be interpreted to be both someone who holds the line on taxes and also someone who thinks spending tax dollars frivolously is good.

Of course we will have more information on here. We will start getting that info after everyone's nomination signatures turned in so it's certain who is on the ballot.

Dawn: Can you tell me about a block or location where it's happening? We might be able to work on aRead More story this week on Patch.

Our spruce trees have been dying as well. Very slowly. This is on upper Coventry lane just acrossRead More from the walkway to Meadowbrook school.

We lost bushes also. I assumed it was from last summer's drought. We're located near Hy59 andRead More Sunset. I noticed dead trees at Prairie View and Sunset also.

I agree that the folks at this Kwik Trip are great at assisting disabled people like myself but IRead More disagree that all Kwik Trips are helpful. There is a law that all gas stations are to assist you if you have disabled plates or a hanging placard if you press the help or disabled key on the pump. If there is no key (and I think all must have them by a certain date) then you are to honk horn twice and if there are at least 2 employees on duty, they are to assist. The K/T on St. Paul is useless. I've waited there, watching at least 3 employees mill around the counter with 1 or 2 customers and ingnore me. The Grandview station same but I haven't tried them in a few months. The worst station for that is whatever the one on St. Paul and Prarie is. I pulled in to see a female worker standing on side of building smoking. When she went in she was greeted by a male worker and I was ignored by both. I'd like to do a survey on how helpful each gas station is to the disabled. Kudos to Fleetfoot Kwik Trip! Whatever they got they should share with their brethren. I would rather give my $ to K/T because they are WI based and they donate regularly to the Salvation Army

I am fine with this service--its great. However being handicapped does not mean employees need toRead More give up their breaks or other customers need to let you cut in line in front of their service needs.

Will these need water? Because the Garden Center at Target has great deals on "no water"Read More tomato plants, which would surely save me some much needed General Assistance money.
Kathy Spancrete June 13, 2013 at 09:14 pm
According to a recent episode of Judge Judy, tomatoes can be both poisonous and deadly. When IRead More called the posted phone number asking for a simple answer to my many serious questions, and all they did was put me on hold -- repeatedly. I cannot recommend a company that refuses to stand behind its own product, much less pick up the phone.
Collin Richter, Waukesha North Badger Boys State Representative

Update! Collin was just selected as one of two STATE TROOPERS for Dodge County. He and otherRead More representatives were interviewed yesterday. Word is that he may be assisting Governor Scott Walker off the helicopter when he arrives at Badger Boys State later this week. Governor Walker is a past Badger Boys State representative.

Thanks for sharing and congrats Collin!
