Gov. Walker: Saving for a Rainy Day

Scott Walker: I’m happy to tell you that for fiscal year 2012 which just ended, our balance sheet shows a surplus of money.

This week, Governor Scott Walker delivered the following weekly radio address titled Saving For a Rainy Day.

Hi, I’m Scott Walker.

Everyone who does a budget at home knows that it takes hard work and frugality to make ends meet. Having a little extra cash left over to save, is an even bigger challenge.

Well, the same goes for the state budget. I’m happy to tell you that for fiscal year 2012 which just ended, our balance sheet shows a surplus of money.

Because of this, we are able to add nearly $109 million to the state’s rainy day fund.  This is a pretty big deal – in fact – it’s the largest contribution to the rainy day fund in state history.

We put money into the fund last year, too, and this is the first time in state history money has been added to the rainy day fund in back-to-back years.

We’ve all seen in recent years how quickly the economy can crumble, dealing a blow to families and businesses.  It’s important to budget wisely – spend LESS and save MORE – so when you really need that extra cushion – it’s there.

Moving forward, as we work on the next state budget, we will continue to focus on what is best for future generations.  Our priorities are creating jobs and developing our workforce, investing in infrastructure and reforming education.

The decisions we make will ALWAYS be made with you, the people of Wisconsin in mind.  We are committed to running an effective and EFFICIENT government, so that we can provide necessary services, without breaking YOUR budget.

The state partnered with the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association to produce and distribute brief radio address once a week.  Audio files and a written transcript of this radio address can be accessed on http://www.wi-broadcasters.org and http://walker.wi.gov/Weekly-Radio-Addresses.  To download an mp3 file, you can right click the radio address link and click “save link as.”

This is too funny for words.

The only rainy day we'll see in the immediate future is November 7th, when we have a 100% chance of liberals' tears followed by flash floods of them pissing and moaning about Obama's defeat the previous night.
Blair Nielsen October 20, 2012 at 08:52 pm
Yes Nuitari, and they won't be able to cry voter fraud because they say there is none. That and the margin of victory will be huge:(
Muskego Mike October 21, 2012 at 12:43 am
When you see all the fiscal problems in "the land of flat", it's great to finally have a great Governor.
TOM October 21, 2012 at 01:34 am
Lets all help the flatlanders get OBAMA back home before they flush thier j giant toilet of a system down there and start over.Do the parasites start to leech off of one another when they have exhausted the present hosts down there??
Nuitari October 21, 2012 at 01:45 am
Couldn't be more true than right in Chicago, where Mayor Ram Ram may have to raise property taxes 150%! Thanks, Chicago teacher union. All for the kids.
Nuitari October 21, 2012 at 01:46 am
You said send Obama back home? That's racist.
Craig October 21, 2012 at 02:47 am
Depends where you want to send him. :-)
Adam Wienieski October 21, 2012 at 09:58 am
Yes, clearly we're not spending enough.
Menoparent October 21, 2012 at 02:48 pm
Read about the latest WEDC fiasco, there is no rainy day fund, education was cut too severely, not to mention services cut in many towns, layoffs, we didn't have a budget crisis until now! Romnesia and crooked Walker! You have all been fooled by the best!
Steve ® October 21, 2012 at 05:04 pm
I just read what Walker wrote and he said you're wrong. Your kind continues to lie to advance the unions stronghold on the taxpayer.
Dawn Higgs October 21, 2012 at 09:46 pm
Hey, here's an idea. Since we have this extra money, why don't we fund Medicaid, so sick little kids and old people can see a doctor? Sounds like a win win situation to me.
robert heule October 21, 2012 at 11:39 pm
Steve, why do have Wisconsin draped with the flag? Walker hasn't quite killed it yet.
Nuitari October 21, 2012 at 11:45 pm
Dawn, ask Obama for $716 billion back that he raided from Medicare to partly fund his craptastic health plan.

The 'surplus' came from $558 million in BORROWED money. Got that?
$108 million going to the rainy day fund was and is BORROWED money while tax revenues are only up marginally unable to keep-up with Walker's give-aways to his rich pals. The cost of the BORROWED money will be $156 million over the term of debt that is part of the 'surplus'. Scott Walker, blew $140 million left over from the previous administration in two months and then increased spending by $1.2 billiion, while taxing the poor and giving to his wealthy cronnies including a railroad run by a guy who was found guilty on four felony counts of money laundering giving cash to Walker's campaign. Now his prized economic develepment agency, 'lost' $69 million in cash he gave away in loans. This all at a time the Governor said he had created almost 39 thousand jobs since his election. Latest figures show Wisconsin has LOST 22 thousand jobs in the same period. 'High-tax' Illinois, from whence Walker said he would poach jobs is creating 30 thousand a month! And Wisconsin's income gap with Minnesota remains at $6 thousand per person. iN FACT...Wisconsin has the worst jobs creation record in the mid-west. Walker is a serial liar, and unfortunately, there are lotsa people who are happy to believe in his lies. Scott Walker is the son of a pastor and an Eagle Scout and everything.

Our spruce trees have been dying as well. Very slowly. This is on upper Coventry lane just acrossRead More from the walkway to Meadowbrook school.

We lost bushes also. I assumed it was from last summer's drought. We're located near Hy59 andRead More Sunset. I noticed dead trees at Prairie View and Sunset also.

I agree that the folks at this Kwik Trip are great at assisting disabled people like myself but IRead More disagree that all Kwik Trips are helpful. There is a law that all gas stations are to assist you if you have disabled plates or a hanging placard if you press the help or disabled key on the pump. If there is no key (and I think all must have them by a certain date) then you are to honk horn twice and if there are at least 2 employees on duty, they are to assist. The K/T on St. Paul is useless. I've waited there, watching at least 3 employees mill around the counter with 1 or 2 customers and ingnore me. The Grandview station same but I haven't tried them in a few months. The worst station for that is whatever the one on St. Paul and Prarie is. I pulled in to see a female worker standing on side of building smoking. When she went in she was greeted by a male worker and I was ignored by both. I'd like to do a survey on how helpful each gas station is to the disabled. Kudos to Fleetfoot Kwik Trip! Whatever they got they should share with their brethren. I would rather give my $ to K/T because they are WI based and they donate regularly to the Salvation Army

I am fine with this service--its great. However being handicapped does not mean employees need toRead More give up their breaks or other customers need to let you cut in line in front of their service needs.

Will these need water? Because the Garden Center at Target has great deals on "no water"Read More tomato plants, which would surely save me some much needed General Assistance money.
Kathy Spancrete June 13, 2013 at 09:14 pm
According to a recent episode of Judge Judy, tomatoes can be both poisonous and deadly. When IRead More called the posted phone number asking for a simple answer to my many serious questions, and all they did was put me on hold -- repeatedly. I cannot recommend a company that refuses to stand behind its own product, much less pick up the phone.
