Guadalupe “Lupe” Garcia Barreto, of Waukesha, died on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 at the Virginia Health and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 83.

She was born in Waukesha on Feb. 17, 1929 the daughter of the late Lupi and Rafaela (nee Hernandez) Garcia. She was a 1947 graduate of Waukesha High School and then attended Cincinnati University and UW-Waukesha.

Vera Kin, of Pewaukee, formerly of Waukesha, died on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012 at her home at Kirkland Crossings at the age of 94.

She was born near Ontario, WI, on Sept. 27, 1917, the sixth of seven children born to George and Ethel (nee Abbott) Wallace. She attended grade school in Oil City and high school in Ontario graduating in 1935.

Kenneth J. “Ken” Roberts, of Waukesha, died on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 84 years.

He was born in Waukesha on Nov. 7, 1927, the son of the John W. and Elsie (nee Vandorf) Roberts.  He was a 1946 graduate of Waukesha High School.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  On Oct. 20, 1956, he married the former Ruth Hughlett at First Congregational Church in Hartland.

Carol M. Schaefer (nee Palmer), a lifelong Waukesha resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 at AngelsGrace Hospice with her family by her side at the age of 79.

She was born in Waukesha on April 30, 1933, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Grace (nee Schaefer) Palmer.  Carol worked a variety of different jobs including as a nurse’s aide at the Northview County Home.  Carol enjoyed playing bingo, but her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She will be sadly missed by all who knew her, especially her daughter Cindy, who had been her main caregiver the past three years and had been living in her home until her passing.

June B. Schmuki, of Waukesha, died on Monday, Sept, 3, 2012 at Waukesha Springs at the age of 85.

She was born in Milwaukee on July 11, 1927 the daughter of the Emil and Elsie (nee Haese) Strehlow.  On Oct. 31, 1946, she married William H. Schmuki; he preceded her in death on Aug. 4, 1995.  June worked for Artistie Beauty Salon.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for more than 50 years.

Magdalen “Maggie” Szabo (nee Czebei), of Waukesha, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at Merrill Hills Manor at the age of 79.

She was born in Budapest, Hungary on June 9, 1933, to Lajos and Anna (nee:  Duhaj) Czebei.  Maggie came to the United States with her family in 1957 at the age 24. She loved birds, flowers, angels, stuffed animals and was a great cook. She appreciated life and always had a positive outlook.  Her family never left her home empty handed after they visited.  Maggie will always be remembered as a loving and generous person who often thought of others before herself.  She will be sadly missed.

Lloyd W. Thomas, of Waukesha, died on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at ManorCare in Pewaukee at the age of 90 years.

He was born in Milwaukee on June 18, 1922 the only child of the late Eslie Elwood and Emma (nee Boerger) Thomas. He was a 1941 graduate of Wythrow High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Retired Navy Veteran E6, Jesse Lee “Papa Bear” Yocum, of Waukesha, died on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 68.

He was born in Avon, IL on March 24, 1944, the son of Dale and Margaret (nee Young) Yocum. He proudly served the U.S. Ggvernment and his country for more than 30 years between his civil service and active duty career with the U.S. Navy as a Seabee with mobile construction Battalion 58.

Siri Synneva Hernandez (nee Nuland), of Waukesha, died on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at her home at the age of 56 years following a year-long battle with cancer.

She was born in Duluth, MN on Dec. 24, 1955, the daughter of Dr. Stanley J. and Barbara C. (nee Mullen) Nuland. She was a 1974 graduate of Platteville High School.  On June 25, 1977, she married Joseph Hernandez in Des Plaines, IL. She was a 1998 graduate of the MATC School of Nursing and worked as a nurse at Woodland Nursing Home and at Waukesha Springs.  She was a member of the Republican Party in Waukesha and of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.

James F. Southard, of Brookfield, died on Monday, Aug, 27, 2012 at his home at the age of 74.

He was born in Waukesha on Jan. 6, 1938, the son of David and Genevieve (nee Eckrich) Southard. He graduated from the St. Francis Seminary in 1955 and then served his country in the U.S. Navy until 1960.  He worked for AT&T for over 35 years retiring in 1992 as a District Supervisor.  

Gregory M. “Greg” Fabisiak, of Waukesha, died peacefully at Seasons Hospice on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at the age of 89.

Greg was born to Michael and Catherine (nee Tomaszewski) Fabisiak in Plover, WI, on Nov. 19, 1922. He was the youngest of 12 children.

At 18 Greg joined the CC Camp in Rib Mountain where he helped to plant trees.  In 1942 Greg moved to Waukesha and worked at General Castings, where he continued to work until his retirement in 1985, after 43 years. On Oct. 18, 1947 Greg married his sweetheart Eleanor E. Moore.  They were married for 65 years when Eleanor passed away suddenly in November 2010.
