Obituary: Vietnam Veteran, Former Milwaukee Sentinel Reporter Dies at Age 69

John E. Caspari, of the Town of Genesee, died on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 69.

John E. Caspari, of the Town of Genesee, died on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 69.

He was born in Milwaukee on Dec. 18, 1942, the only child of the late Edmond and Jeanette (nee Southmayd) Caspari.  He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army.

John was a 1960 graduate of Nathan Hale High School, received his bachelor’s degree from UW-Whitewater and then earned his master’s degree from Northwestern University.  He worked as a journalist for the Milwaukee Sentinel and then later for Northwestern Mutual retiring in 2002.  John was past president of the Public Relations Society of America.  He was a member of Jerusalem Presbyterian Church and served as Clerk of Session.  John will always be remembered foremost as a very devoted father and son.

He will be dearly missed by his son John (Laura) Caspari of Chicago and his daughter Cate (Kyle O’Connell) Caspari of Wauwatosa. He is further survived by Torke cousins, Jungbluth cousins, the McBride family along with other cousins, relatives and friends. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 14, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Jerusalem Presbyterian Church, 207 W. Main St., Wales, WI 53183.  Visitation continues on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at the church from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral service.

The Rev. Bill Petterson will preside.  Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Milwaukee. Please meet at the cemetery entrance.
