Obituary: Roy Matthew Piala

Waukesha man, 26, died while on Christmas vacation in Costa Rica.

On Christmas morning, Roy’s spirit left his body in the waves of the Pacific Ocean off a beach in Costa Rica.  He was 26 and was on a much-deserved Christmas vacation. Roy is a most beloved son of James and Catherine Piala and best buddies with his brothers: Chad (Emily), Quinn (Amanda), Kurt and Glenn. Grandpa Ed Piala survives Roy as does Roy’s beloved Molly Luterbach.  Roy was loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and customers who nearly always became friends.

Roy graduated from Waukesha West High School in 2003.  He took many classes at MATC and worked his way up to part owner and manager of Piala’s Nursery and Garden Shop, Inc.  Customers marveled at Roy’s vast knowledge of horticulture and his willingness to share it with them.  Each year Roy looked forward to producing a beautiful crop of flowers and other plants for his customers.

Roy loved animals of all kinds as evidenced by the flock of peacocks and other birds that roam the Piala’s Nursery grounds. He also has a petting zoo for customers and his own enjoyment. He will be sadly missed by his blue heelers, Roxie and Blucee.
