Obituary: Peter “Pete” John Dowd

Waukesha man passes away at age 72.

Peter “Pete” John Dowd, of Waukesha, passed away while surrounded by his family at Waukesha Memorial Hospital on Monday, July 30, 2012 at the age of 72 years.

Peter was born in Brooklyn, New York on Feb. 5, 1940, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (nee Quinn) Dowd. On Sept. 1, 1962, he married the love of his life, Diane (nee D’Amato). Peter proudly served in the United States Navy and retired after 20 years of service. He was a lifelong member of the Fleet Reserves. Peter was a member of the American Legion Post #8 in Waukesha. He worked for over 30 years as an electrician. More than anything, Peter loved spending time with his family and friends.

Peter will be dearly missed by his children, Peter (Heidi) Dowd of Las Vegas, Nevada, Teresa (Andy) Lee of New Berlin, Victoria (Charles) England of Las Vegas, Nevada and Patrick Dowd of Waukesha; his mother-in-law, Lucille D’Amato; his grandchildren, Chelsea, Taylor, Charles “Beau”, Jessica, Kaitlyn, Haley, Leiah and Lilah; his brothers, Gerard Dowd, Buddy Dowd, Robert Dowd and Brian Dowd; and many other family and friends. Peter was preceded in death by his wife, Diane; his parents; his brothers, Joseph, Donald and Raymond; and his sisters, Peggy and Doris.

The visitation for Pete will be from 4 p.m. until the 6 p.m. funeral service on Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI 53188. There will be full military honors at the conclusion of the service for Pete’s dedicated service to our country. A private family burial will be held on Saturday morning at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Peter’s name are appreciated by the family to the American Legion Post #8, PO Box 111, Waukesha, WI 53187 or to the BloodCenter of Wisconsin Foundation Office, 638 N. 18th St., Milwaukee, WI 53233.
