Obituary: Mary Ann Durkin

Waukesha woman dies at age 95.

Mary Ann Durkin, of Waukesha, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at the age of 95.

She was born in Madison on April 20, 1916, the daughter of Albert and Catherine (nee Clemens) Endres. Mary attended secretarial school after graduating high school in Madison. She worked for her father’s company Endres Electric in Madison, served as a nurse’s aide at University Hospital and sang in Sweet Adelines.

On Aug. 12, 1939, she married her beloved husband Thomas Durkin. Prior to moving to Waukesha, Mary lived in Beaver Dam and Whitefish Bay.  Dedicated to her community she was a member of the Waukesha Service Club where she volunteered as a gift shop employee at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.  Mary was a founding member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she was part of the Study Club and Christian Mothers.  She was also very active in various bridge clubs.

She will be sadly missed by her children; Thomas Durkin (Valerie) of Littleton, CO, Michael (Laura) Durkin of New York City, William (Beth) Durkin of Waukesha, Mary (David) Cotton of Waukesha and Tricia (Mark) Olson of Thornton, CO, her grandchildren: Patrick (Diana), Matthew (Jamie), Liza, Madalynn, Anthony, Andrew, Natalie and Michael and her great-grandchildren, Abby, Ellie and Leia Grace. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas on November 14, 1997, her sisters Dorothy Bleecker and Catherine Gempeler and by her daughter-in-law Jean Marie.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. with a rosary service to follow at 1110 S. Grand Avenue, Waukesha.  Visitation continues on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. at , 225 S. Hartwell Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186 followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
