Obituary: LaVerne M. Peterson

Waukesha woman passed away Wednesday at age 83.

LaVerne M. Peterson, of Waukesha, was born to Eternal life on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at the age of 83.

She was born in Chicago, IL on May 14, 1929 the daughter of Alex and Mary (nee Kucic) Vidra.  She was a graduate of Lourdes High School in Chicago where she served as class President and was valedictorian.  On May 14, 1949 she married Roy “Pete” Peterson. He preceded her in death on December 13, 2003.  LaVerne loved to teach and taught 7th grade at St. Joseph School for many years. She was a past President of the Christian Mother’s at St. Joseph Catholic Church and at St. Paul Catholic Church where she has been a longtime and faithful member.  She also was the program chair for the Waukesha Catholic Women’s Study Club and enjoyed teaching Christian Formation to children of migrant workers.  LaVerne was an excellent cook, seamstress and homemaker and enjoyed gardening and canning and was always concerned with social justice issues.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

She will be sadly missed by her daughters Amata (David) Cox of Palmyra and Susan (Michael) Watts of Green Bay, her two grandchildren: Terra (Neal) Driscoll of Wilmette, IL and Jordan (Maggie) Watts of Washington DC and four great-grandchildren: Collin, Cole, Maeve and Ellery Driscoll all of Wilmette, IL.  She is further survived by her brother Robert Vidra of Flagstaff, AZ along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  In addition to her husband Roy “Pete” and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Monsignor Thomas Vidra, her sister MaryAnn Matulonis and her sister-in-law Shirley Vidra.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Paul Catholic Church, S38-W31602 Highway D (Corner of Highway D and Highway 83), Genesee Depot, WI 53127.  Father Mark Molling will preside.  Graveside services will immediately follow at St. Paul Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the charity of the donor’s choice.
