Obituary: Joan M. Blaies

Mukwonago woman was retired director of nursing at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

Joan M. Blaies of Mukwonago died peacefully Sunday morning, April 8, 2012, surrounded by her family, at AngelsGrace Hospice.

She was born Feb. 6, 1934, in Green Bay, daughter of Clifford and Mildred (nee Hansen) Swanson. On Nov. 19, 1955 she married Donald Blaies at the Episcopal Church of the Intercession in Stevens Point.

Prior to retirement Joan was the director of nursing at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. Joan also traveled doing public speaking on death and dying, and stress management.  Joan loved history, and following her retirement she taught history at Waukesha County Technical College. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood Chapter DL.  Joan was an active, lifelong member of The Episcopal Church.

She will be sadly missed by her children John Blaies of Mukwonago and The Rev. Sarah Blaies of Mooresville, NC.  Dear grandmother of Zachary, Samuel, and William Blaies, Jennifer (Timothy) Wilson, Rebecca and Emma Hennen, and great-grandmother of Chloe Wilson.  She is further survived by her brother The Rev. John-Julian Swanson of Hartland, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Donald, in 2009.

A special thank you to Dawn from Comfort Keepers who lovingly cared for our mother while at home, and AnglesGrace Hospice for all their wonderful care the last two weeks of her life.

A memorial service will take place on Friday, April 13 at 10 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 216 Main St., Mukwonago, WI. 53149.  The Rev. Drew Banting presiding.   In lieu of flowers memorials in Joan’s name are appreciated to the church (address above).
