Obituary: Jean Davies Seeling

Waukesha woman died Tuesday at age 95.

Jean Davies Seeling, a lifelong Waukesha resident, died on Tuesday, May 2, 2013 at the age of 95.

She was born on July 23, 1917 the daughter of Evan and Cora (nee Trakel) Davies.  Jean graduated from Waukesha High School in 1935 and from Carroll College in 1939.  She was involved in many extracurricular activities in both high school and college.  She married Norman Seeling on Nov. 16, 1940. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 80 years and belonged to several social clubs in Waukesha.

During World War II Jean was an executive secretary at Borden Company in Waukesha and personal secretary to officers at US military bases.  She then was a substitute teacher at Waukesha High School for several years before working with her husband at Norm Seeling Office Supplies and Equipment for 23 years.  After her husband’s death in 1985, she volunteered in the rehabilitation unit at Waukesha Memorial Hospital for 22 years.

She will be lovingly missed by her children Richard (Ellen) Seeling of Waukesha, Joan Seeling of Phoenix, AZ and Jane (Jim) Barry of Waukesha, her grandchildren, John (Krisanne) DenBoer, Scott Barry, Steve (Melissa) Barry, David DenBoer and Kate Brown and by her great-granddaughter Breah Jean Barry.  Jean was preceded in death by her parents Evan and Cora Davies, her husband Norm Seeling, her sister Mildred Brown, her brother Lloyd Davies and many other family members. 

The family gives heartfelt thanks to the staffs at Avalon Square and Waukesha Memorial Hospital and to Dr. Elizabeth Davies for their compassionate loving care.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the Avalon Square Chapel, 222 Park Place, Waukesha, WI 53186.  Reverend Linda Loving will preside.  Visitation and refreshments will immediately follow the service.  A private burial will be held at Prairie Home Cemetery.  Memorials are appreciated to Avalon Square (address above), First Presbyterian Church or The Caring Place both located at 810 N. East Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186.
