Obituary: J. Larry Burke

Waukesha man, an Army veteran, dies at age 85.

J. Larry Burke, of Waukesha, passed away peacefully at Seasons Hospice surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at the age of 85 years.

He was born on December 10, 1927 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Edwin J. Burke, Sr. and Rose Mary (nee Werner) Burke. Larry was a proud U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.  He worked at Vince Schneider Crane Service and retired from Dawes Rigging and Crane Rental after many years of service.  Larry has been a 35-year member of Operating Engineers Local 139.  Most of all he was an avid motor home traveler, golfer and enjoyed crosswords, playing cards and boating.

Larry will be sadly missed by his wife, Arlene (nee Konrath); children, Timothy M. (Maureen) Burke, Kevin J. (Sydney M. Tungate-Burke) Burke, Mary Margaret (Michael) Ryan, Patrick J. Burke, William E. Burke, Robert E. Burke, Ann M. (Chris) Grounds and Daniel S. Burke; grandchildren, Margaret “Meggie” Ryan, Philip Burke, Rachel (Philip) Bidwell, Talia Burke, Lauren Burke, Kenneth Burke, Angelia Burke, Kevyn Rae Burke, Caitlin Ryan, Kelly Grounds, and Peggy Grounds, and Mikayla Topp; step-grandchildren, Dennis (Paula) Ryan, Tom (Tricia) Ryan, and six great-grandchildren. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Larry is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret Louise “Peggy” (nee Howie); and his brother, Edwin John (Jean) Burke, Jr.; grandchildren, Jacklyn Burke and Lawrence Burke.

The visitation for Larry will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI 53188.  A second visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday,  January 24 at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd. Waukesha, WI 53188.  The Rev. Curt Frederick will be officiating.  Entombment will immediately follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, with military honors.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Larry’s name appreciated to St. William Catholic Church (address above) or Knights of Columbus, 1800 S. 92nd St. Milwaukee, WI 53214 or to a charity of your choice.  A special thank you for the care and compassion the staff at Seasons Hospice gave to Larry and his family.
