Obituary: Holly Mary Patterson

Waukesha woman, 71, passed away Monday.

Holly Mary Patterson, of Waukesha, died unexpectedly on Monday, April 15, 2013 at her home at the age of 71.

She was born in Oconomowoc on March 15, 1942 the daughter of William F. and Mary Catherine (nee Kelly) Hormann.  On August 29, 1970 she married Richard Patterson; he preceded her in death on December 2, 2005. Holly and Richard owned and operated The Waukesha Pet Center and Underwater World for many years.

Holly also owned and operated Waukesha Pet Grooming and was an instructor at The Wisconsin School of Pet Grooming.  Along with Richard, she was a Master Scuba Diver where they taught scuba diving in many lakes and quarries and at various schools and colleges. She spirited The Wisconsin State Divers Club. She also set up large travel groups of scuba divers for trips in Florida and many Caribbean islands. Holly and Richard were instrument rated Pilots and flew their Piper aircraft every weekend and even flew across country. In addition to her work as a diver and with animals, Holly worked as a chef at an Oconomowoc supper Club and St. Johns Military Academy in Delafield.

Holly was a master Gardner and a long time member of the Greater Milwaukee Rose Society. She was an active board member and served on many committees. She enjoyed showing her roses and received many first place ribbons. Holly most enjoyed the outdoors, tending to her many gardens and volunteering for various gardening beautification projects was her passion. She also enjoyed riding her horse, being with her family and friends, spending time with all her pets and helping many people that came to know and love her. She was a constant supporter of humane societies and was an avid animal protection advocate.

She is survived by her loving children, Daniel Patterson of Waukesha, Donald (Jenny) Patterson of Mukwonago, Judy (Jeff) Ashley of High Springs, Florida, Kathy (Bill) Kershner of Waynesboro, Georgia, and Richard (Suzanne) Patterson of Millington, Tennessee.  She was the cherished grandmother of Heather, Jessica, John, Becky, Katy, Alan and Melissa; great-grandmother of Dusty, Savanna, Brody, Byron and Killian.  She is further survived by her sisters Nancy Jenkins of Oconomowoc and Mary Rieder of Nashotah, her brother William Hormann of West Allis, her former daughters-in-law Stephanie Patterson and Kim Patterson of whom she considered to be good friends, her nieces and nephews, Maria (Tim) Roloff of Milwaukee, Tom Oxendorf of Oconomowoc, Lizabeth Oxendorf of Hustisford and George Jenkins of Oconomowoc along with other relatives and many loyal friends. In addition to her husband Richard, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 19, 2013 from 4 p.m. until the 7 p.m. Rosary Service at the Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Avenue, Waukesha.  Visitation continues on Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 9:30AM until the 10:30AM funeral Mass at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. Entombment will immediately follow the funeral Mass at St. Joseph Cemetery.  If desired, memorials are appreciated to Cool Breeze Helping Hands, 6995 N.
