Obituary: Dorothy J. Damiano

Dorothy J. Damiano, of Waukesha, died on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family at the age of 83 years. 

She was born in Milwaukee on Aug. 19, 1929, daughter of Casimir and Anna (nee Potrykus) Zurkowski.  She was employed at St. Mary’s in Hales Corners for 38 years as a school business and operations manager.  Dorothy later worked as a housekeeper at St. William Catholic Church in Waukesha where she was a longtime active member.  She recently attended St. Mary’s Academy Class of 47 Alumni Reunion.  Dorothy was the most loving, compassionate and selfless mom, grandma and great-grandma that a child could ask for.

Dorothy is the beloved mother of Michael (Del Rey),  Patrick (Cindy) and Barbara (Michael)Kowalski; loving grandmother of Christian (Stacey),  Evan (Sarah Stevens),  Skylar, Peter,  Nicole,  Jacob (June), Troy (Sarah) and Brandon (fiancé Angela Chiconas); loving great-grandmother of  Vaughn and Declan and a new addition arriving in September; dear friend of Fr. Leonard Barbian.  Dorothy is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She is preceded in death by her son, Timothy, her parents and brothers, Leonard and Norbert and infant sister Rita Zurkowski.

The visitation for Dorothy will be held from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013 at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI   53188.  A second visitation will be held at 9 a.m. until the time of the 10 a.m.  Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013 at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, WI. 53188.  The Reverend Leonard Barbian will be officiating.  Burial will immediately follow Mass at St. Adalbert’s Cemetery, Milwaukee.  If you so wish, notes of a favorite memory or time spent with Dorothy are much appreciated by the family.   In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dorothy’s name are appreciated to St. William Catholic Church (see address above).   The family of Dorothy would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Federico Sanchez and the nursing staff at Waukesha Memorial Hospital- 2 SW Oncology for the care and compassion given to Dorothy and her family.
