Obituary: Doris Mae Kohlhaas

Waukesha woman dies at age 84.

Doris Mae Kohlhaas, of Waukesha, died on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at Care-Age of Brookfield at the age of 84.

She was born on June 5, 1927 in West Bend the daughter of Wilfred and Alice (nee Worachek) Vilmur. She was a 1945 graduate of Waukesha High School. Doris worked for Borden’s Dairy and then at her parents grocery store Vilmur’s Market. She married Robert Paul Schomer on June 7, 1947.  He preceded her in death Jan. 1, 1978. Then in September 1982 she married Arthur Kohlhaas at Genesee Congregational Church. She was a very avid sports fan and loved the Packers, Brewers and the Cubs.  For over 50 years she enjoyed participating in her card club.

She will be sadly missed by her husband Arthur of Waukesha, her children: Robert M. (Betty) Schomer of Oconomowoc, Carol A. (William) Long of Milwaukee, Diane M. (Michael) Mann of Las Vegas, NV, Nancy M. (Dick) Moon of Waukesha, Mary E. (James) Mitchell of Waukesha and Susan K. (Brian) Lenard of Waukesha, her step-children: Karen (Dominic) Frinzi of Sullivan, Wendy Kohlhaas of Sullivan, Bryan Kohlhaas of Pewaukee, Penny (Mike) Fosholdt of Palmyra, and Heidi (Tom) Schoknecht of Delafield, her five grandchildren: Bryan Schomer of Wauwatosa, Sara Schilling of Waukesha, Amy (Peter) Kaczmarek of Milwaukee, Jeff (Laura) Mann of Las Vegas, NV, and Jamie Mitchell of Waukesha, three great-grandchildren: Jacob, Benjamin and Elijah, 10 step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren.  She is further survived by her sister Mitzi Walsh of Waukesha, sister-in-law Mary Vilmur of Illinois, nephews Sean Walsh of Muskego, Michael Walsh of Waukesha, nieces Kathy Chambers of Madison and Christine (Frank) Cavaliero of Connecticut, her best friend Nova Mathews of Waukesha along with other relatives and friends.  In addition to her 1st husband Robert she was preceded in death by her brothers: Don Vilmur and Rod Vilmur, her brother-in-law Ed Walsh, sister-in-law Pauline Vilmur and her parents.

The family wishes to extend a special heartfelt “thank you” to Dr. Bill Lutz, Cindy Szcygiel, Advantage Home Hospice, Bright Star, and Care-Age of Brookfield for the wonderful care you provided our mom.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 from 4 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral service at 1110 S. Grand Avenue, Waukesha. The Rev. Joe Medina will preside.  Private family graveside services will be held on Friday at St. Joseph Cemetery.
