Obituary: David D. Downing

David D. Downing, age 58, of Germantown died on Saturday, July 20, 2013 due to an accidental drowning. 

He was born in Waukesha, WI on Aug. 17, 1954, the youngest child of Glenn E. and Harriet A. (Service) Downing.  Dave was a 1973 graduate of Catholic Memorial High School and was also a graduate of WCTI and St. Norbert College.  He had been employed with AMOCO and Fleet Farm locally and previously had worked in Sun Valley, Idaho, California and Arizona.  Dave enjoyed traveling and had many friends throughout the country.

Dave is survived by his loving sisters, Jan (Lynn) Griffin of Tomahawk, WI, Martha  Sanville of St. Louis Park, MN, and Valerie (Tony) Cappozzo of Sun Prairie, WI; nieces and nephews, Cheri (Paul) Filanowski of Norwalk, CT, Sarah (Dennis) Showalter of Wayzata, MN, David (Katie) Cappozzo of McFarland, WI, Katie (Chris) Barmann of Platte City, MO, Dan Cappozzo of Oro Valley, AZ, Philip (Denise) Downing of Holmen, WI, and John Downing of Ixonia, WI.  Dave is further survived by Aunt Dorrie Clayton of East Troy, WI, great nieces and nephews, cousins and many dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Harriet Downing; one brother, Robert J. Downing, and a nephew, Matthew A. Sanville.

A Celebration of David’s life will take place on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, from 4  p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Frame Park Shelter, 701 E. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Dave may be given to the American Diabetes Association-Wisconsin, 375 Bishops Way, Suite 220, Brookfield, WI 53005.     

Dave was a beloved brother, favorite uncle and a loyal friend. He faced many challenges throughout his lifetime with much courage, perseverance, and quick wit and will be remembered by all who knew and loved him for his overall positive outlook on life.
